The uniqueness, spice, and flavor of Halal cart chicken over rice is unmatched! Growing up in New York City, this delicacy was like heaven on a plate! Not to age myself, but for $10, you could get a whole tray of rice, chicken, a salad, and other fresh vegetables like cucumbers and tomatoes. Plus when you add some white sauce, it takes it up a notch!

What is “Halal Style” chicken and rice?
Recipes that are prepared “Halal style” are done with respect to the ingredients. Halal recipes do not contain any pork or alcohol. The meat is also prepared under specific religious guidelines and prayer that allows them to be consumed safely by the Muslim community. Many grocery stores sell Halal prepared chicken. If you don’t have access to Halal prepared chicken, you can buy traditional chicken thighs as well.
- The chicken is marinated for a minimum of one hour to allow that flavor to develop deep into the chicken. I would highly recommend marinating overnight for the best results.
- The rice is made with a blend of curry and turmeric which gives a spicy kick to your dish!
- The homemade white sauce takes it to the next level!
- Add on the fresh vegetables and salad for the icing on the cake.

- Boneless skinless chicken thighs
- Seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic & onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, cumin, oregano, black garlic, complete seasoning, coriander, turmeric, curry powder, & ginger)
- Fresh vegetables- lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, green bell pepper, & thinly sliced onions
- Rice (basmati preferred, but Jasmine or long grain rice)
- White sauce ingredients (mayonnaise, Greek yogurt, sour cream, vinegar, lemon juice, salt, pepper, & garlic powder).

- The longer the chicken marinates, the deeper the flavor. Let it sit for a while if you want the chicken to really stand out.
- Be sure to rinse your rice prior to cooking. This minimalizes the start in the final product.
- The white sauce needs to sit in the fridge for at least an hour to develop flavor.
